Expert advice : how to take care of your skin this summer!

Let’s start off with a little about your background…

My name is Marie-Perche, i’ve been a Beautician for 13 years and Chief Beautician here at Bota Bota for about three years. In 2004, after four years of studies, I obtained my diploma from the Lycée Maria Casares in France. During those four years, I studied multiple beauty techniques including waxing, make-up, body care, manicures, pedicures and of course, facials.

Is there any advice you give to all your clients?

My advice varies depending on the skin type of my client. My only universal advice is to moisturize, it’s essential for a healthy looking skin. It’s important to incorporate moisturizing as a step in your beauty routine either by the use of a specialized products or by simply drinking a healthy amount of water. Small reminder, the ideal amount of water to drink per day is 1.5l!

Do you have an essential step to include in a summer skin routine?

Sun protection is important in summer and in winter. It is essential, during the summer season, to choose either a sunscreen or moisturizing cream that contains SPF in order to protect your skin. I also recommend to exfoliate once or twice a week to have a smoother and more radiant skin.

What is the best way to keep your skin glowing?

As I mentioned previously, one to two exfoliations per week can help maintain a glowing skin during the summer. A healthy diet is equally important when it comes to keeping a healthy looking glow. I advise to eat lots of fruits and vegetables that are rich in vitamins in order to hydrate and nourish your skin. Carrots, among others, make it possible to prepare the skin for a more natural looking tan.

What are the steps of your daily routine to keep your skin healthy?

  1. I hydrate my skin twice a day in the morning and at night.
  2. I use a good daily cleanser that is adapted to my skin type.
  3. I exfoliate once or twice a week.
  4. I apply a cream that contains SPF every day.

Do you have any well-kept secrets to share with us for a healthy looking skin during the summer?

Honey helps regenerate and heal the skin, it’s a natural remedy that has enormous benefits on the human body. Otherwise I advise to use olive oil, which helps strengthen the hair, the nails as well as the skin. Sometimes, home remedies are just as effective as expensive creams in order to achieve a beautiful glow!

What advice would you give to someone wants to start a skin routine?

I advise to think of this routine as a way to take care of yourself and to avoid thinking of it as a chore. If you visualize it as a relaxing task, the habit will be incorporated a lot faster into your daily life.
