Each year, Earth Day raises questions about our collective efforts to protect and maintain the planet. Are we doing enough? If not, what more can be done to contribute to sustainable development?

What Is Sustainable Development?

The idea of sustainable development is vast. This concept includes practices that aim to meet the current needs of society without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own. It is therefore a question of ensuring that our current way of life can be maintained in the long term without depleting the planet’s natural resources or causing irreparable damage to the environment. Sustainable development generally involves balancing economic, environmental and social needs through environmental protection, economic development and social equity.

Sustainable Development Efforts at Bota Bota

At Bota Bota, we remain aware of the impact our operations can have on the environment and are committed to minimizing the negative effects of our activities on the planet. As a company, we implement numerous eco-friendly actions and policies:

• The use of organic products for our treatments as well as in our showers
• Promoting locally manufactured brands whenever possible to reduce the carbon footprint such as our shower gels from produits Lemieux, which is a local and organic brand
• The use of the St. Lawrence River as an energy resource, in particular to cool the boat
• The installation of a heat pump system in the gardens which allows the installations to be connected by a thermal loop
• Energy consumption monitored according to different indicators (peaks, distribution of consumption, wind, perceived temperature, etc.)
• Water surfaces that are covered in the evening to limit heat loss

Efforts for the Future

Despite our current efforts towards a more sustainable future, there remains a considerable number of actions we can still take. We continue to research and identify local cosmetic brands with whom we can collaborate in our service offerings. Finally, the company intends to participate in restoring and giving back to the river ecosystem by helping to clean the banks or through donations to the St. Lawrence River fund.
