There was a time when I believed that sponsors would rush the moment I made it to the Olympic team. That I was finally going to find a work-life balance.

I was wrong.

I faced with the reality of desperately trying to find sponsors through a busy schedule of training and competition. All the doors seemed to close one after another.

However, an unexpected encounter on a unsual boat happened during my few weeks off-season. I was confident but nervous in front of the team. I even made a video to show them my content creation prowess and thus, break the ice. I was prepared to negotiate and try to do everything to sell myself.

Again, I was wrong.

On the calm water of the river, the boat did not expect a performance from me. It was all about me to navigate at my own pace and share that peace of mind with others. I realized that I was enough.

My authenticity on my journey to the Olympics was what was most valuable.

So I come on board with a new state of mind, where I would give myself the chance, at times, to lower the sails and enjoy a moment of serenity. Who knows, maybe that’s where I’ll find the balance?
