Disconnection: Necessary for Our Mental Health?

In the digital age, social networks play a central role in our daily lives, shaping our interactions and our self-perception. However, this hidden world, associated with omnipresent hyperconnectivity, can have notable consequences for our mental health.

Disconnection: An Essential Asset

Although digital technologies provide undeniable benefits, their use and the content we consume can also have consequences on our physical and mental health. For example, these technologies can influence sleep, eye health, physical activity, mental health, and even child development.

To facilitate the balance between family and personal life, disconnection is one of the most important aspects. Especially with remote work, which is now an integral part of the reality for many people. The line between work and personal life is so fine that it is sometimes difficult to distinguish.

Furthermore, disconnecting can have beneficial effects on our professional performance. Rested employees are generally more productive, more creative, and better able to make informed decisions. By regularly taking moments to recharge, they are also more likely to stay motivated and engaged in their work in the long term.

How to Recharge Your Batteries Onboard

At Bota Bota, we want to offer you a timeless experience. And for that, nothing better than a perfect digital detox during a stay on the water.

During your visit aboard, your phones and tablets stay in your lockers, waiting for your return. By disconnecting, you recharge your personal batteries, strengthen your emotional resilience, and increase your ability to manage stress.

Your relaxation moment starts as soon as you set foot on the boat’s deck. The water circuit repairs and soothes the aches of your body in three stages. Settle comfortably in the sauna or steam bath to help your muscles relax and begin the process of eliminating toxins and dilating blood vessels, helping your immune system strengthen.

A short swim in cold water afterward stimulates the senses, promotes white blood cell production, relieves muscle soreness, and increases the production of well-deserved endorphins.

Once these two steps are completed, let yourself be guided to the suspended hammocks, which will rock you throughout your relaxation time. Several indoor and outdoor spaces are available for you to take time for yourself.

The desire to share this experience with the person accompanying us sometimes takes precedence over the mandatory silence on the boat. Reconnection Thursdays have been designed to offer you the opportunity to exchange in a hushed voice throughout your visit.

With certain conditions, of course, to respect the well-being of all passengers. This remains a wonderful way to disconnect and enjoy the presence of a loved one by sharing a unique moment together.

Disconnection for Young and Old

We are also aware that children are just as affected as adults by hyperconnectivity. And sometimes, from an early age. According to the National Institute of Public Health of Quebec, 42% of young Quebecers aged 6 to 17 have spent, on average, more than 10 hours per week in front of a screen, compared to 25% in 2019. A reality, which, as we can guess, has very likely increased in 2024.

We offer them the chance to take time for themselves during a fun and relaxing morning, much appreciated by the younger ones and their chaperons:

  • Pirate’s Layover is a morning for children accompanied by an adult. An initiative by Bota Bota to introduce and help them enjoy the water circuit and its three stages: heat, cold, and relaxation.

Various workshops are also available on board during these days.

  • A workshop on conscious breathing, an essential tool for managing the body and mind, accompanied by pleasant stretching.
  • A beginner’s massage therapy course, a first step toward a connection with the body through massage techniques.

A little help, when it is difficult to talk about it; the Jean Lapointe Foundation does prevention work with children to support them as much as possible.
