Aerial Yin at Bota Bota

At Bota Bota, the Aerial Yin workshop is highly sought after. Margaux, from the Calmness Hotline studio, guides you through an hour of gently awakening and working your muscles. “A magical moment,” she tells me with a smile.

Aerial Yin is a blend of yin yoga and aerial yoga. By holding each posture for 3 to 5 minutes, supported by fabric, gravity helps you ease deeper into your practice. Over time, this can help reduce, or even eliminate, back pain and poor posture.

Working with the fabric

Margaux and I spoke at length about the fabric used. A former fashion industry professional, she carefully chose a material that feels light on the body and is gentle on the skin — a soft, strong, and enveloping fabric that supports and softens each movement.

In Aerial Yin, the use of an aerial apparatus allows for body relaxation and mobility exercises. Margaux explains that the initial experience might feel uncomfortable due to unfamiliar pressure, but with time and a mental letting go, the body relaxes and opens fully.
“It often surprises participants,” she says, laughing.

She also highlights the importance of the fabric in awakening the entire body — from the extremities to the deep spinal column — while improving flexibility, mobility, and oxygen intake, fostering overall well-being.

“After a stiff beginning, where the body resists the fabric a little, it only takes a few minutes for everything to calm down: the body embraces the fabric and begins to release,” she observes.

The sensory relaxation experience at Bota Bota

We also discussed the importance of the unique sensory experiences at Bota Bota, particularly the visual elements that create a deeply relaxing atmosphere.

During the workshop, Margaux invites participants to observe their surroundings, to bring awareness to their bodies: grounding their feet, opening their elbows, breathing softly. Gradually, as the session progresses, the body lets go and surrender sets in.

“The visual textures, the play of light on the water, the sound of flowing water — all of it greatly contributes to the soothing ambiance,” she says.
The cocoon experience — that sensation of weightlessness and floating within the fabric — leaves a deep impression on many participants. It’s even one of the main reasons they are eager to return.

“There’s nothing more magical than Bota Bota with the heat from the baths rising, the sun shining through the windows, the option of opening them in summer to hear the birds, or simply the silence,” Margaux confides. “It helps the parasympathetic nervous system shift into rest mode.”

She also mentions the hammock room in the gardens where the workshop takes place, always bathed in light:
“You feel good there — warm and comforted. The heat from the wooden walls, the heated floors… it’s so delightful, especially in winter.”

From body to mind

Participant feedback after the workshop is extremely positive, not just for the immediate experience, but for the profound effects that follow: melatonin release, emotional relaxation, and above all, a true sense of letting go.

Aerial Yin involves deep pressure on the muscles, which enhances blood circulation, oxygenation, and promotes the body’s detoxification.
The fact that the fabric applies pressure to usually less-stimulated areas helps enhance detoxification — a process Margaux calls “deep tissue release.”

For the duration of a session, the body quite literally takes the shape of the fabric.
“Once inside the fabric, a unique form emerges, one that’s different for everyone because each point of support is unique,” Margaux tells me. Each workshop thus becomes a singular moment, an invitation to fully embrace the present.

A moment of sharing

At the end of the workshop, the body is deeply relaxed, almost asleep.
Margaux offers participants a small ginger shot to help revive them after the intense relaxation.

The feedback moment, just after the session, is precious: a space for exchange where everyone can share their feelings, impressions, and discoveries.
Taking this short moment together creates a real connection: everyone feels seen, heard, and acknowledged.

Margaux’s Aerial Yin workshop is much more than just a physical practice — it’s a complete sensory experience, where body and mind meet gently.
A true inner journey, cradled by water, light, warmth, and fabric, inviting everyone to slow down, settle, and simply savor the present moment.
